

Catherine was born in Birmingham, Alabama and lived there all of her life. She attended Mtn Brook Elementary School, Brook Hill High School, then on to college at Emory University where she earned a degree in Psychology. While working as a psychologist at Spain Rehab on the adolescent floor, she discovered her passion for working with children. During this time she earned a Masters Degree in Counseling from UAB.
Catherine became a counselor at Homewood High School where she worked for 30 years and retired; her love of children was felt by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Newton Hanson DeBardeleben, and Virginia Swann DeBardeleben, both of Birmingham, AL.
She is survived by her brother, Newton Hanson DeBardeleben, Jr, her nephew, Newton Hanson DeBardeleben, III, (Tara) with their 2 sons, Joe and Theo of Boise, ID; her 2 nieces, Virginia D. Shubert, (Sam) and their daughter, Savannah of Birmingham, AL; Pamela D. Leonard, (John) and their 2 sons, Aidan and Owen of Brentwood, TN.
In accordance with Catherine’s wishes, there will be no service.
