

Celia Murphree Anderson, 87, of Village Springs, AL went home to her heavenly Father on July 4, 2018. She was born to the late Lucile and W. Candler Murphree on May 7, 1931 in Birmingham, AL. Celia is survived by her husband of 46 years, Billy R. Anderson; children Cathy Cutcliffe Pilcher of Trussville, AL, Claire Cutcliffe Cole (Clifford) of Demopolis, AL, and Thomas Edward "Tec" Cutcliffe of Panama City, FL; sister Emmalyn Murphree Smith; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Celia graduated from Woodlawn High School, class of 1949 and later attended the University of Alabama and graduated from Howard College with a BS degree in education. While at Howard, Celia was both a cheerleader and a member of the women's tennis team. She later attended UAB to earn her Masters Degree in education. She was a wonderful teacher for 25 years in Birmingham city schools, including North Roebuck and Going Elementary schools. She retired from her teaching career in 1990. Celia was a longtime member of St. John's United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir. As a violinist from childhood, Celia would occasionally play in worship services. Celia and Bill led the Fancy Free Senior Group at the church for 12 years, where they enjoyed many adventures and travels with their group. She will be deeply missed for her kind heart and loving nature by all those who knew her, loved her, and were impacted by her life.
Visitation Saturday, July 7 from 10 - 11 am at Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church, 412 Cumberland Dr., Birmingham, AL 35206. Celebration of life service officiated by Rev. Mike Gatch to follow at 11:00 am. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.
