Charles D Baird

Charles Donald Baird, DVM, age 80, of Birmingham, AL, passed away on September 25, 2017. He grew up in Bessemer, AL and graduated from Auburn University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 1960. He began a career as a veterinarian that spanned over 50 years. Following active duty service in the U.S. Air Force, he operated Baird Animal Clinic in Bessemer and later Graysville Animal Clinic before retiring in 2015. He was a longtime member of the Jefferson County Veterinary Association, a Rotarian, and an elder in the Presbyterian Church. He was a life member of the Auburn Alumni Association and a Golden Eagle. Dr. Baird was preceded in death by his spouses, Barbara Booth Baird and Nell Johnson Baird; his brother, James J. Baird, Jr.; and his daughter, Lorraine B. Hunt. He is survived by his son, Andrew T. Baird and wife Rebecca; grandchildren, Davis Baird, Lindsey Baird, Austin Hunt, and Jason Hunt; son-in-law Paul Hunt; sister-in-law, Jean Baird; nieces Carol B. Reeves and Mary K. Baird; and other family members. Visitation will be held at Johns-Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel on Sunday, October 1 beginning at 1:00 PM with a graveside service to follow at Elmwood Cemetery at 2:00 PM; Revere nd Ed Hurley officiating.
