Charles Lee "Buddy" Smith
January 19, 1928 – April 11, 2019
Charles Lee Smith, affectionately known as Buddy, went to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the age of 91.
Buddy was born on January 19, 1928, to James Hebron and Lily Mae Smith in Sylacauga, Alabama. He served on active duty in the Army Air Corp from 1946-1947 and was called back to active duty again in 1950-1951. Buddy met the love of his life, Jeannine E. Price in Tuskegee, Alabama and they married on May 2, 1949. He worked as an aircraft mechanic until he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service where he retired in 1988.
He served as a deacon at Eastmont Baptist and Lakewood Baptist Church where he was a member until his passing. Buddy enjoyed his time coaching youth football, building model airplanes he carved by hand, fishing, golfing, and watching his Auburn Tigers.
Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Lily Mae Smith; and his sisters, Elna Tisdale; Jamie Cofield; and Martha Pierce.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 70 years, Jeannine P. Smith; his daughter, Gail S. (Joe) Pazsak; his son, Mark C. (Beverly) Smith; three grandchildren, Joshua (Brooke) Smith; Joanna (Chris) Camper; and Paige (Wesley) Hendrix; and six great-grandchildren, Carson, Jordan, and Makenna Camper; Jake Cochran and Christian Joshua Smith; and Stella Pazsak.
Funeral service will be held at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel on Monday, April 15, 2019, at 2:00 pm with a visitation beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.
