He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Edgar Stephens and Gertrude Ella Whaley Stephens; his brothers, Roger Stephens and Ralph Stephens.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Floy Stephens; his sister, Katherine Bishop (Billy); his daughters, Debbie Huston (Mike), Joy Lynn Golden (Paul), and Kathy Oaks (Joe); four grandsons, Michael Huston (Lauren), Peyton Huston (Mary), Logan Golden (Lauren), Griffin Oaks (Katie); great grandchildren, Brooke, Tyler and Mae Huston, Hunter, Travis, Bryce Golden, and McKenna Huston. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charles graduated from Woodlawn High School and then went on to graduate from Howard College (Samford University) in 1958. He worked in the family business, Stephens Building Supply. He was involved in many business ventures, partnerships, and commercial real estate.
He was a Dale Carnegie Certified Instructor for many years and also taught it at the Women’s Julia Tutwiler Prison. He served on several boards and for many years on various committees and boards of the Baptist Health Systems.
Charles was a lifelong member of The Church at Liberty Park (formerly Woodlawn Baptist) where he served faithfully as a teacher and deacon.

A memorial service will be held at The Church at Liberty Park, on Monday, October 5th at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Monday October 5th from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Church at Liberty Park , 12001 Liberty Parkway Vestavia Hills, AL 35242.
A private burial service will be held for family at Forest Crest Cemetery in Irondale, AL.
