Cherrie Darden McDaniel, 65, of Moody, Alabama, passed away on August 8th, 2026. She was doing what she loved most—spending time with her family. Cherrie was born on September 30th, 1960, in Birmingham, Alabama, to George T. Darden and Betty S. Darden. She attended Huffman High School and went on to work at Alagasco, Ridgecrest Baptist Church, and Southern Progress Corporation.
She was extremely active as a parent volunteer while her daughters attended Clay Elementary, Clay-Chalkville Middle School, and Clay-Chalkville High School. Not only did she plan splendid field trips, class parties, and awards ceremonies, but friends who needed a ride after school or practice knew they could hop in her blue Chevy Astro van and be chauffeured home or elsewhere, with plenty of laughter along the way.
She was a long-time member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, where she was active for many years, serving in areas like Vacation Bible School, community outreach, and other ministries. She chaperoned youth mission trips, attended Sunday School, and shared the gospel in various evangelism outreach programs.
In more recent years, Cherrie especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She never tired of chatting with them, attending their events, and taking time to pick out gifts to shower them with. She loved hosting family gatherings and celebrating holidays. She also enjoyed planning parties and decorating for special occasions and for each season, especially the fall. She could often be found behind her camera, capturing the moments and people that she loved.
Cherrie is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Tommy G. McDaniel; her daughters, Shannon Skelton (Mark) and Holly Good (Tyler); her grandchildren, Silas Thach, Neely Skelton, Mattie Skelton, Cash Good, and Carter Good; and her life-long best friend, Brenda Vinson (Jackie).
We will honor her life with a visitation at 1:00 p.m. and a service at 2:00 p.m. at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Highway, on Friday, August 14th.
