Cherry Lee Weeks was born in Dallas County, Alabama. She confessed Christ at an early age and received her religious training at New Bethany Baptist Church in Sardis, Alabama. She sang with the Youth Choir at New Bethany for services held on the first and third Sundays of each month, and with the Youth Choir at New Bride Baptist Church on the second and fourth Sundays.
After graduating from Shiloh High School, Cherry moved to New York City and joined White Rock Baptist Church. There, she served faithfully as president of the Choir, president of the Mothers Club Plus Ministry and Scholarship Program, and as a dedicated member of the Kitchen Committee.
Cherry worked as a retail manager for more than 20 years with Lerner New York/New York & Company. After retiring in 2022, she relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, where she continued her career in retail for another 15 years at The Gap.
She continued her walk of faith as a member of New Hope Baptist Church, serving with devotion on the Hospitality Ministry, the Woman-to-Woman Ministry, and the Golden Age Choir during its existence.
Cherry’s life passions were cooking, shopping, and traveling. She was unique in her love for people—making friends effortlessly, never meeting a stranger, and embracing everyone as family. Her kindness and benevolence knew no limit. Her favorite bible verse was Romans 12:21, “Be not overcome of evil but overcome evil with good”, and she lived according to these words.
Cherry departed this life at the age of 86 at Saint Martins in the Pines, Compassus Inpatient Hospice.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, William Lee Weeks; one sister, Alberta Hunter of Albany, NY; one daughter, Felecia Lynne Weeks of Pinson, AL; one son, Jeffrey Owen Weeks, Sr. of Birmingham, AL; four grandchildren: Jeffrey Owen Weeks, Jr. of Birmingham, AL, Jaylah Amari Weeks of Birmingham, AL, Courtney Nichelle Miller of Pinson, AL, and Jayden Stephan Weeks of Birmingham, AL; and one great-grandson, Braylee Jaye Weeks of Birmingham, AL. She also leaves to cherish her memory her brothers- and sisters-in-law, a special daughter-in-love, nieces, nephews, cousins, several godchildren, and her lifelong best friends.
As we mourn the loss of her physical presence, let us take comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on through the love she gave. We are blessed by her sweet memory.
