
BERGLUND, CLAIRE LORRAINE September 3, 1920 - October 27, 2011 Claire L. Berglund, 91 of Hoover, AL, and Kansas City, MO, went home to the Lord on October 27, 2011. Her constant smile, good humor, and loving cheerful attitude were will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service was held Sat., Oct. 29, 2011 at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover. The Rev. Chris Sullivan officiated. Claire was the youngest of 3 sisters, born to Charles and Ida Schiller on Sept. 3, 1920, in New Effington, SD. She met her future husband Larry on a blind date in 1939 to go bowling with friends. Apparently the pins fell the right way and they were married on Leap Day, 1944. After the wedding, they were stationed in Washington DC and later California. During Larry's Navy service Claire split time between California and Minnesota. After WWII, Claire and Larry moved back to Minnesota and began to raise a family. The family moved to Kansas City in 1956 and established roots there until Claire relocated to Alabama in late 2010. Along with Larry, Claire was a founding member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Kansas City. She and Larry loved to travel internationally, taking many trips in retirement. Claire was an active quilter and sewer, reader, and fan of Kansas City sports teams. Claire was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Larry. She is survived by her four children, Charles (Janet) of Dallas, TX, John (Paula) of Orange, CA, Robert (Sharon) of Parker, CO, and Wendy (Gary) of Hoover, AL and 8 grandchildren, Allison Ferraro of Scottsdale, AZ, Dana Schickedanz of Kansas City, MO, Emily Berglund of Dallas, TX, Joshua Berglund of Arlington, VA, Adam Berglund of Lawrence, KS, Ben Berglund of Aurora, CO, Stephanie Wagner of Madison, MS, Brian Koon of New Orleans, LA, four great grandchildren; his sister-in-law Marjorie Foscue King of Raleigh, NC; niece Karin Long of Raleigh NC and nephew Wayne Foscue of Woodbridge, VA and great nieces and nephews. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, friends and serving her church.
