Claire Bouton

Bouton, Claire Scalise, age 80 of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 22 while residing at Brookdale Place on Lakeshore. Claire was born in Orlando, FL and moved to Birmingham as a young girl. She graduated from John Carroll High School and later earned her education degree from Birmingham-Southern. Loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother; she was pre-deceased by her parents, Leah O’Keefe Scalise and Peter Paul Scalise; and her husband, William L. Bouton, Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Gloria (Bill) Eubank and her brother Peter Paul Scalise, Jr.; her children, Michael (Linda) Bouton, Pammy Bouton of Holiday Island, AR, and Chris Bouton of Birmingham; and her grand-children Will and Brooke Bouton of Birmingham.

Claire was a teacher at Our Lady of Sorrows, Minor, and Kingston. For years she volunteered as CCD coordinator at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and RCIA Sponsor at Our Lady of Sorrows. She was heavily involved with the Quill Club Literary Guild as well as with the Marks Village Tutoring Program. Mom never met a stranger and her smile lifted the spirits of many.

The family would like to especially thank the caring professionals at Brookdale Place for their many acts of kindness for “Miss Claire”. Thanks also to those at Gentiva Hospice who also cared for mom.

Visitation will be at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church on Friday, February 24 at 9:00 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to either John Carroll Catholic HS or Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.
