
born on April 28, 1930 and died peacefully
Monday, January 11, 2016. He was preceded in
death by his wife of 58 years, Jerry Bellenger
Newman, his son, Brian Newman and his mom,
Elma Herron. He is survived by his children,
Allyson Overstreet (Bill) of Hendersonville,
Tennessee, Martin Newman and Lindsey
Newman (Barbara) of Birmingham, Amy Way
(Cary) of Auburn, and daughter-in-law Debi
Newman Riesling of Dallas Texas as well as 14
grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and his
sister, Margaret Keys of Virginia. He lived in
Birmingham all his life and was a 1948 graduate of Woodlawn High
School before joining the Marine Corp. He was a salesman by
profession, best known for selling flooring and church furniture through
his company, Universal Interiors, Inc. He loved people and was a
familiar face around the eastern area of Birmingham. He loved his
church and worshipped with his family at Ruhama Baptist Church,
North Park Baptist Church (formerly Roebuck Park Baptist Church) and
FBC Roebuck Plaza. He was also a man who loved his country and
served it through the Gideon's, Meals on Wheels, Civitans, Roebuck
Sales Club as well as coaching at South Roebuck Park and the Booster
Club at Banks High School. Visitation with the family will be on
Wednesday night, from 5-7 at Ridout's Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden
Highway, Trussville, Al 35235. Service will be on Thursday at 11 at the
funeral home with burial across the street at Jefferson Memorial
Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Gideons,
Meals on Wheels, or favorite charity.
