Born on December 17, 1960, in Birmingham, David was a quiet yet deeply devoted family man who cherished time with his loved ones. Though he may not have always been the most talkative person in the room, his presence spoke volumes to those who knew him best. He especially enjoyed spending time with his cousins and found great joy in their company.
David had a natural talent for working with his hands and was truly a "jack-of-all-trades." If he could imagine it, he could build it. His resourcefulness and creativity were evident in everything he did.
A passionate NASCAR fan and a die-hard supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers, David never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. Beyond sports, one of his greatest passions was animal rescue. He had an immense love for animals—especially dogs and cats—and never hesitated to take in those in need. His home became a sanctuary for many rescued pets over the years, including his beloved fur babies Maxx, Belle, and Jumping Jackie. Even when he was hospitalized, his concern for animals remained steadfast; arrangements were made to ensure that the kittens born just before his passing found loving homes.
David is survived by his granddaughter Kylee; his mother Nadine (Hardeman) Dickinson Campbell; his brother Randall Leon Dickinson; his sister Marguerite Dickinson Knight; and a host of cousins who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Leon Dickinson; stepfather Thomas E. Campbell; and grandparents William David Hardeman and Bula (Waldrop) Hardeman, as well as Earl Dickinson and Camilla (Davidson) Dickinson.
A graveside service will be held on February 26, 2025, at Elmwood Cemetery, located at 600 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., Birmingham, Alabama, at 1:00 PM. Prior to the service, visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Samaritan Health Clinic (www.goodsamaritancullman.com) in honor of David’s lifelong dedication to helping others—both human and animal alike. His quiet strength and compassionate heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
