David Robert Morrison, 85, of Montevallo, Alabama, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, a legacy of love, and a family who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
David was born on December 28, 1940, in Pleasant Grove, Alabama, to the late Joel Thomas Morrison and Cora Eugenia Busby Morrison. Following his graduation from high school, he proudly answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force, demonstrating the dedication and sense of duty that would remain with him throughout his life.
At just 16 years old, David met a young lady named Brenda Sue Davis, never knowing that their meeting would become the beginning of a beautiful lifelong love story. From those early days of young love grew a bond that would stand the test of time. Together, David and Brenda built a life filled with love, devotion, laughter, and treasured memories. Married for 64 wonderful years, they shared not only a lifetime together but a love that became the foundation of their family. Brenda was truly the love of his life, and their enduring marriage was a beautiful example of commitment and devotion.
David was a hardworking and dependable man who dedicated 42 years of his life to the railroad, where he worked as a switchman operator before retiring. His strong work ethic and steadfast nature were qualities that defined him, both in his career and in the life he built for those he loved.
A man who was known by many names and loved by many people, David affectionately earned several nicknames throughout his life, including "Moses," "Boxcar," and "Chop," the name by which he was known among his golfing friends. Each nickname was a reflection of the friendships, experiences, and special connections he made along the way. To those who knew him by any of these names, he was someone who would not easily be forgotten.
When he wasn't spending time with his family, David could often be found enjoying one of his greatest passions—golf. An avid golfer, he treasured his time on the course, the friendships he made, and the camaraderie he shared with his golfing buddies. For David, golf was more than a game; it was an opportunity to enjoy life's simple pleasures and spend time with good friends.
Above all else, David was a true family man. His greatest pride and joy came from the people he loved most. Whether through the quiet moments of everyday life or the special occasions that brought everyone together, he found happiness in being surrounded by his family. The love he gave, the memories he created, and the example he set will continue to live on through the generations who follow him. Although he did not get the opportunity to meet his great-granddaughter, Daphne, who is on the way, she will grow up knowing the love and legacy of the great-grandfather who came before her.
David was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joel Thomas Morrison and Cora Eugenia Busby Morrison; and his siblings, Roy, Donald, Ronnie, Mary Jo, Nell, Martha, Wanda, and Jean.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 64 years, Brenda Sue Morrison; his sons, Lee Morrison (Lori) and Scott Morrison; his grandchildren, Michael Michard (Tori), Miles Morrison, Maggie Schubert (Kyle), and Colton Morrison; his eagerly anticipated great-granddaughter, Daphne; and his surviving siblings, Sandra, Rita, and Donny. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, his cherished golfing friends, and many others whose lives were touched by his friendship and kindness.
While David's earthly journey has come to an end, the love he shared will never fade. His life was not measured simply by the years he lived, but by the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless memories he leaves behind. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue in every story told, every memory shared, and every moment his loved ones hold dear.
A visitation for David will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Johns-Ridout's Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham, Alabama. Though he has played his final round and completed his earthly journey, the love he gave and the memories he made will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
