

Don Edward Swafford, 84 years old, died July 29, 2022. Don was born January 18, 1938 In Birmingham, AL. He attended Hueytown High School, Birmingham Southern College, and later earned a degree at the University of North Alabama. Don was also a Veteran of the United States Air Force from 1960 - 1964.
Don was an instructor with the Arthur Murray Dance Studio and spent his acting career as a regular performer in regional and national theater, including Town and Gown Theater, University Players (Florence State College), Birmingham Children’s Theatre, Celebrity Dinner Theater (Vestavia), and Blue Moon Dinner Theatre. Don earned his Screen Actors Guild card when he was cast in the film, “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.” Later, he was employed for 20 years at Buddy Moore Trucking Company.
Don was active at Episcopal Church of the Advent until his health declined. He is predeceased by his parents, Woodrow and Ruby Lee “Teddy” Swafford, sister Emmalene Burchfield, brother-in-law Bill Burchfield, and nephew Lyle Burchfield. Don is survived by nephew Lee Burchfield (Selena Frye); niece Jane Webb; grand nephew and niece, Paul and Katy Burchfield; and special friends and colleagues from his days in the theatre. Memorial donations to Episcopal Place are greatly appreciated.
A visitation for Don will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave Sw, Birmingham, AL 35211, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
