Doris Turnipseed Barnes 91 passed away Friday December 30th. Born May 19, 1920, Mrs. Barnes was a life long resident of Birmingham graduating from Phillips High School and Birmingham Southern College. She taught in both the public and private school system for over 40 years. She molded the lives of many 1st and 2nd graders at Southminter Day School. She was a member of Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church for 50 years and a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by her 3 children, Jack E Barnes, Jr. (Woody), Janet Barnes, and James Robert Barnes, all of Birmingham; 4 Granddaughters Lizzie (John) Jeffcoat of Birmingham, Frannie Barnes of Atlanta, Emily (Mick) Hokanson of Durham N.C., Sally (Matt) Miller of Fairhope; seven Great-Grandchildren, and Great-Godson Taylor Franklin. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.A.Turnipseed Sr., Brother, J.A. Turnipseed Jr, and her husband of 60 years Jack E Barnes, Sr. A Memorial Service will be held at Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church on Tuesday January 3rd at 12:00noon with visitation beginning at 11:00am.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Chapel in the Pines or to the Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega.
