

Dorris H. Tidwell, age 88 of Fultondale, went to be with her Lord and Savior September 11, 2014. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 62 wonderful years Gordon G. Tidwell; parents Charles M. Hooker and Edna L. Palmer; sister Irene Holmes; brother Charles M. Hooker, Jr.; and sister Ramona Murray. Dorris is survived by her six devoted children Gary G. Tidwell (Juanita), Donna L. Tidwell, Karen D. Dyess (Robert), Debbie G. Milton (David), C. Scott Tidwell (Melanie) and Vicki D. Lavett (Farley); her loving grandchildren Chris Tidwell (Tracie), Rachel Dykes (Rick), Candace Tidwell, Caitlin Tidwell, Danielle Lavett, Stephen Lavett, and Nicholas Lavett; and her great grandson Charlie Dykes. Dorris graduated from Jefferson County High School, Tarrant, AL. May 1944. She trained and became a telegraph operator on the Southern Railroad. She worked the East line and was responsible for orders to be handed between stations and threw the switches for the trains to change their tracks. Dorris and Gordon met in high school and married April 11, 1947. Dorris is well known for her beautiful paintings, her many fine arts and crafts, and her lifelong love for Alabama football. Dorris is a member of Cornerstone Church of Mt. Olive. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 beginning at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville. Pallbearers are grandsons and sons in law.
