WHITEHEAD, EDSEL ROYCE “ED”, age 79 of Birmingham, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mavis Bishop Whitehead; sons, Eddie Whitehead, Alan Whitehead and Tim Whitehead (Michelle); 6 brothers; 1 sister; grandchildren, Joshua, Tim and Stephanie; and great-granddaughter, Elisa. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.S. “Shorty” and Waldine Whitehead; sister, Mary Allen; and granddaughter, Ashley. Ed was born in Douglas, AL and graduated from Douglas High School in 1955. He married Mavis Bishop on May 26, 1956 in Horton, AL. Ed was a refrigeration specialist for the railroad for almost 40 years and resided most of his life in Birmingham. Ed coached little league football and basketball for many years. His family will celebrate his life on Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 11:00 – 2:00 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with his service beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Wounded Warrior Project.
