Edward Houston Gardner, 91, died on August 12,2018. Ed was born in Birmingham, Al and graduated from Ensley High School in Birmingham. He served in the army during WWII, then worked at U.S. Steel, in Birmingham, for several years before moving to Huntsville, where he worked for SCI until he retired. Ed was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, in Huntsville, where he was a solo violinist on many occasions. He was an avid model railroading enthusiast and was active in the Redstone Model Railroad Club throughout the 48 years they lived in Huntsville. Edward was pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph Houston Gardner and Katie Barnette Gardner, and his sister, Norma Jo Gardner Walton. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Clois Upchurch Gardner, his brother-in-law, Harold E. Walton, two nieces, Clara Kate Walton Welch (Brian) and daughter, Rebecca, and Clois Lynn Walton Bell and daughter, Shannon, and son, Jeffrey, sisters-in-law, Carolyn U. Price, and Lynette U. Evans and eight other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 10:00A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home with a Celebration of Edward's life following at 11:00A.M. at Elmwood Chapel. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Compassus Hospice, 1400 Urban Center Drive Suite 100, Vestavia Hills, AL 35242
