Ellen Davis Atchison of Vestavia Hills passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the age of 89. She was born in Moundville, Alabama and was a 1942 graduate of Hale County High School. She moved to Birmingham, Alabama where she spent all her adult life. She was a member of Saint Mark United Methodist church, an avid bowler, and a member of the Greater Birmingham Women’s Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert H. Atchison. A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and Great Grandmother, she is survived by daughters, Jane Kinsaul (Raymond Lee Kinsaul) of Vestavia Hills, AL, Jo Ann Ellard (Rickey Brooks) of Chelsea, AL; granddaughters, Melissa Wilbourne (Bill) of Hoover, Al, Allison Ellard of Chelsea, Al, Leslie Greer (Ryan) of Northport, Al; great granddaughters, Mary Ashlee Wilbourne, Emilee Atchison Wilbourne, Anna Ryan Greer; sister Nancy (Nannie) D. Stone of Ashland, Al and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow the service in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to The Exceptional Foundation, 1616 Oxmoor Road, Birmingham, Al 35209.
