

Evelyn Lurlean Nichols Chavers peacefully passed away on June 16, 2020 at the age of 96. Lurlean was born January 2, 1924 in Benton, Alabama. She was the youngest of 9 children. After living in the Selma, Alabama area until 1955, she then moved to Birmingham, Alabama where she lived the rest of her life.
Lurlean was a retired insurance agent with the Independent Life & Acc. Insurance Company. She also ran a successful cake decorating business in her retirement years. Lurlean was extremely talented in designing, baking, and decorating all types of cakes and pastries; from small all occasion cakes to huge fabulous and delicious wedding cakes. She also had many hobbies, including crafting and jewelry making. She was an avid gardener and grew many exotic and rare plants.
Lurlean loved her family and friends dearly. She was always ready to talk to anyone and share some laughter. She was affectionately known by all her nieces and nephews as "Aunt Love".
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy F. Nichols and Louella Nichols; all of her brothers and sisters; and a son, Carl Allen Storey. Lurlean is survived by a daughter, Jean Carol Cunningham and a son, David Chavers; 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by Mark Thomas, who was like a beloved son to her.
Lurlean was a member of Bluff Park Baptist Church in Hoover, Alabama. She had been a former member of Pike Avenue Baptist Church for over 40 years, up until the time it closed.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 20, 2020 from 10-11 am at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel. Services will follow at 11. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
