

Geneal M. Rankin, 74, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019. She was born in Gadsden, Alabama and was a graduate of Ramsay High School. She earned a degree in French language at Howard College (now Samford University) and taught French at Berry High School. An avid cross stitcher, she was the owner of Thread Bear, a counted cross stitch shop in Vestavia, Alabama. During the 9/11 tragedy she enlisted some of her customers, provided supplies free of charge, to stitch and frame hundreds of Fireman’s Prayer cross stitch pieces that were presented to the Fire Stations of New York City and to the families of fallen fire fighters.
As an active member of Riverchase United Methodist Church she served on the Board of Directors for Christians Place Mission in Nauvoo, Alabama. She provided sandwiches to the clients of the mission for 10 years. While serving as a counselor she recruited others to come and serve. She made one trip to Haiti to minister to orphans with pastor Mark Wadley under the auspices of Hands and Feet Ministries.
She is survived by her husband, Don Rankin, her daughter Carol Findlay and her son David Rankin and two grand daughters Alexa and Faith Rankin.
The family will receive visitors from 10-11 AM at Riverchase United Methodist Church,
Thursday, January 31, 2019 with a Celebration of Her Life Service following at 11 AM. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
