George Scott Burrough Sr., age 83, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. He was born November 17, 1938 in Birmingham, AL., to the late Ruby Glynn Floyd Burrough and William Coleman Burrough. He is preceded in death by his parents and his step-son Mark Bradley Reynolds. He is survived by his lovely wife, Martha Ann Barber Burrough. They were married on May 4, 1979. He is also survived by his children: Scott Burrough of Collinsville, IL., Patty Midgette (James) of Clanton, AL., Kit Bozeman (Leslie) of Alabaster, AL., Becky Elmore (Robbie) of Alabaster, AL., 13 Grandkids and 20 Great-Grandkids.
Raised in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from West End High School, he worked at White Dairy, Citadel Cement and Montclair Hospital where he retired after 20 years of service in maintenance.
In 1973, as a single father raising children, he was awarded the "Mother and Father of the Year Award" from Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren. He was often seen quietly attending a grandchild's ball game, baptism or Eagle Scout Court of Honor.
He loved watching Alabama football and you could always count on a hearty "Roll Tide" when you saw him wearing a Crimson T-shirt. He will be missed by so many that loved him.
A public visitation will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 10:00am-11:00am at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, AL. 35211 with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00am. Burial will follow immediately at Elmwood Cemetery.
