George C. Snyder

George C. Snyder, 89, died Saturday, August 4, 2018 at his home in Bridgeport, West Virginia. He was born August 20, 1928 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was the son of George S Snyder and Thelma Allen Snyder. At age five, he and the family moved to Rochester, New Hampshire. He joined the US Navy in January, 1947, and retired as a Master Chief Photographer’s Mate after thirty years of service in 1976. After retiring, he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Blanche Snyder Carr. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Flora Acton Snyder, his daughter, Elizabeth Snyder Book, and son-in-law, Michael S. Book, a brother, Noel A. Snyder (Nancy) of Florida, nieces and nephews, friends, and family. Visitation is Friday, August 10, 2018 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at John-Ridout’s Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL. 35211. Service is Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00am. Burial with military honors is at Elmwood Cemetery at graveside. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the West Virginia Raptor Rehabilitation Center, 68 Bald Eagle Ln, Enterprise, WV. 26568.

Biography
