

George Thomas “Tommy” Yearout, age 77, of Birmingham, Alabama, entered eternal rest on June 17, 2026. Born in Birmingham on March 11, 1949, Tommy lived a life defined by faith, family, friendship, service, and unwavering devotion to his community.
Tommy was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Adrianne Constellos Boyd; his father, William Yearout; and his stepfather, Joseph Boyd.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rhonda “RJ” Yearout, his loving brother, Gusty (Laurie) Yearout; his daughter, Jennifer (Andrew) Smith, and their children, Eleni and Connor; his son, Alex (Karen) Yearout, and their children, Adrianne, Lexi, and Thomas; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, godchildren, and countless friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.
A graduate of Ramsey High School, Tommy excelled as both as a football player and track athlete. He later attended Auburn University where he proudly played football for the Auburn Tigers from 1969 to 1971 affectionately earning the nickname “The Great One”. War Eagle! His athletic accomplishments were notable as were the friendships he formed with his teammates that he cherished throughout his life. It was also during his time at Auburn that he met the love of his life, Rhonda, beginning a marriage that would span 50 years.
After graduating from Auburn, Tommy earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University and went on to practice law in Birmingham for over four decades. He had a distinguished legal career earning the respect of colleagues, clients, and friends through his integrity, wisdom, and dedication to serving others. He deeply valued the chance to mentor and support young lawyers, and was grateful to play a role in their careers and successes.
Tommy also took great pleasure in hunting, fishing, and boating. Whether on the water or in the outdoors he loved sharing this time with friends and family.
Tommy was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he faithfully served the Church for decades. His commitment to his faith was evident through numerous leadership roles including Parish Council Member, Parish Council President, Ambassador to the Vicar, recipient of the Archangel Michael Award, and Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He was a pillar of the parish community and a devoted steward of the Orthodox faith. He was always willing to step in as a presenter or “MC” at church events and other engagements where his quick wit and natural gift for improvisation kept everyone laughing.
Above all, Tommy cherished his family. He shared over fifty years of love with his wife, Rhonda, and took great pride in their life together. He was a devoted father to Jennifer and Alex, always present and supportive, and nothing brought him more happiness than being Papou to his grandchildren. Time spent with family meant the most to him.
Tommy's legacy is one of faith, leadership, generosity, loyalty, and love. He leaves behind a family who adored him, a church community strengthened by his service, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m.
Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
