Geraldine Catalano, one half of the sibling duo “Frank and Geraldine” whose presence graced our southside Birmingham neighborhood for decades, passed away Wednesday morning, August 13, 2025; Born in 1928, Geraldine was the only girl in a family with nine brothers. Like many of her siblings, she was intellectually challenged but that only added to her charm and personality. Geraldine was well known and admired by local business owners and people living and working in the Five Points area where you would often see her walking the streets or catching the bus. All that walking certainly contributed to her 97 years long life. Despite her many challenges, Geraldine loved people and loved the Lord. She and her brother Frank have been long serving members of South Highland Presbyterian Church where the congregation embraced and adopted them immediately. Geraldine was the daughter of Tony and Rosie Catalano who along with eight of her nine brothers, preceded her in death. A service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 1:00 in the sanctuary of South Highland Presbyterian Church, 2035 Highland Avenue in Birmingham with Dr. Larry Michael and Reverend Cort Gatliff officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Greater Alabama 310 Board (Formerly Jefferson County Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Authority).
A funeral service for Geraldine will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 1:00 PM at South Highland Presbyterian Church, 2035 Highland Avenue, Birmingham, AL 35205 with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
