Gloria N Alverson

Gloria Noe Alverson age 96 of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Tuesday February 21, 2023. Gloria was a lifelong Birmingham resident, growing up in Ensley. She went to Minor grammar school and graduated from Ensley high School in 1944. She married 2 years later to Challie Alverson. They remained married for 44 years until his death.

Gloria started working for the federal government in 1962 and went on to work for different federal agencies for 24 years receiving several outstanding service awards. She retired in 1986 from the Department of the Air Force.

Gloria was a member of Ensley Baptist church until its closure. After moving to Vestavia, she joined Shades Crest Baptist Church in 2005. She was known among her family and friends as being a fierce competitor when it game to playing cards, board games and chicken foot.

Gloria is predeceased by her parents Daniel Webster and Mary Erma Noe, her husband Challie Weems Alverson and her brother Jack Thomas Noe. She is survived by her two children Steve Alverson (Leann Alverson) and Sherry Alemán, (Alejandro Alemán) her two grandchildren Stevie Alverson (Ryan Anderson), Michael Alemán and a great grandchild Avi Elenor Alverson Latham, and step grandchild, Adriane Harris Blackwood.

The Family Requests in Lieu of Flowers that a donation be made to: Senior Adult Designated Ministry Fund at Shades Crest Baptist Church 452 Park Ave. Hoover, Al 35226.

A visitation will be on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 10 am until 10:45 am at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel in the Chapel. A procession to Block 34 at Birmingham's historic Elmwood Cemetery will begin at 10:45 am. In the event inclement weather, the service will be held in the Celebration Chapel at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home.
