Hallita Rena (Rodriguez) Grusnick, age 101, was called home to her eternal home in Heaven on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Hallita was born on April 8, 1921, to the late James J. and Hallie Mae (Riddle) Rodriguez in Camaguey, Cuba. She graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She retired as a payroll manager at Southern Research Institute. Hallita was a family woman, devoted daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. She loved God fully and reverently and lived her joyful life shining and sharing His great love. While Hallita's family grieves her loss, they choose to remember Hallita her in a way that honors her life. She left them to follow her lead, "to dance like no one is watching, sing like no one is listening, and laugh till your face hurts." Her strength of spirit, determination, and, most importantly, her trust in the Lord contributed to her longevity. She loved flowers and was a true inspiration to all who had the privilege of getting to know her. One of her proudest moments in life, was catching a 7-and-a-half foot, 70-pound sailfish on her birthday in the Florida Keys.
Hallita is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Carl Grusnick, her parents, and her two brothers, James and Homer (Wattie) Rodriguez. Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Connie (Howard) Slay, Richard (Pam) Grusnick, and David Grusnick; grandchildren, Jennifer (Slay) Fisher, Stephen Slay, Samantha (Slay) McDonald, and Grant Grusnick; step grandchildren Terrence Bennett, David Bennett and Donna Cook; great-grandchildren, Grace Fisher, Spencer Slay, Georgia Slay, Seth McDonald, Lane McDonald, Layla Grusnick and Judah Grusnick and a host of other relatives.
