Mr. Harold Monroe Langston, Sr., of Hoover, AL, died on Monday, November 14, 2016 at the age of 89. Harold is survived by his wife, Rebecca Carolyn Dodson Langston; his children, Linda Langston of Birmingham, AL, Harold “Hal” Monroe Langston, Jr (Cindy) of Hoover, AL, and Sharon Langston Donaldson (Ed) of Atlanta, GA; his three grandchildren, Michael Langston (Elizabeth), Christa Langston, and Evan Donaldson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Annie Lee Langston of Birmingham, AL; daughter, Carolyn Ann Langston of Birmingham, AL. Harold was born on March 9, 1927 in Birmingham, AL to Samuel and Annie Lee Langston. He was a graduate of Woodlawn High School in 1945. Following high school he enlisted in the Army and was in the 88th Infantry in World War II. After the war, he returned to Birmingham and graduated from Howard College (currently Samford University) in 1952 with a degree in Business. After college Harold embarked on a lifelong career in sales at United States Steel. Shortly after starting his career, he and Rebecca Dodson married on December 5, 1958 in Birmingham, AL. Over the 57 years Harold and Rebecca were married, the couple welcomed 4 children and 3 grandchildren. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, giving and patient father who loved and supported them throughout life. He was a devoted and longtime member of Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. He was very active in the church mission ministry both domestic and international. Outside of his family and faith, one of the most important moments in his life was being selected for the Honor Flight to visit the World War II memorial in Washington DC. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, November 20th at 3:00 pm with visitation at 2:00 pm at Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Pastor David Carboni will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church’s “Mission Fund”.
