Hall, Harriett Alma Monroe, age 81 of Hoover, Alabama passed away, March 20, 2019, surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her sons, Joe McMillan Hall, III (Mary) and William “Michael” Hall (Carla) and her four beautiful granddaughters: Nancy “Kingston” Hall, Phoebe Michelle Hall, Elizabeth Anne Hall, and Margaret Lee Hall.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harry Edward and Alma Cooper Monroe, her twin brother Harry Edward Monroe, Jr. and her younger brother, William “Lee” Monroe.
Harriett graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas and a Master of Science degree in Education from Livingston University. She obtained her private pilot’s license and was a life member of Ninety-Nines, Inc., an International Organization of Women Pilots where she held officer positions at the Chapter and Section Level. Harriett held the rank of Captain in the Civil Air Patrol. She was a member of Acmar United Methodist Church. Harriett led an active life full of adventure, travel, generosity, grace and the love of family and many friends.
The visitation will be Friday, March 22, 2019, at 1:00 pm Elmwood Chapel with the funeral following at 2:00. Services are under the direction of Johns-Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum, 223 North Terrace St. Atchison, KS 66002 (or) Acmar UMC Scholarship Fund, PO Box 85, 4107 Old Acton Rd, Moody, AL 35004.
