Harvey Holmes Oliver

Passed away Saturday, June 3rd at the age of 87. Born May 30, 1930 in Birmingham, AL to Cecil and Bertha Oliver. Married his college sweetheart, Grace Irvine Oliver, in September 1952 and have been happily married for almost 65 years. Attended Phillips High School in Birmingham and Marion Military Institute. Attended The University of Alabama where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, but later transferred to The University of Georgia where he graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. Served as a First Lieutenant stationed at Fort Knox and Fort Campbell, KY and later in the Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged in 1962. Worked as a field drug rep for Abbott Laboratories in North Carolina for 10 years, but later returned to Birmingham to work with his father in the financial business. Survived by one sister - Barbara O. Hitchcock (Lee); 3 children - Cynthia Walker, Stephen I. Oliver (Carolyn), Nancy O. Gray (Ves); 6 grandchildren - Bonnie Walker, Caitlin O. Thebaud (Brian), Thomas Gray (Brittany), Clay Oliver, David Gray, Marilyn Gray and 3 great grandchildren - Alexis, Caden and Grayson Funeral Services will be Wednesday June 7, 2017 at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church beginning at 1:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Elmwood cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Vestavia Hills Baptist Church.
