Hazel Calvert Stricklin Case , age 96, passed away December 19, 2016. She loved in word and deed, and all who knew her were strengthened by her character. Her table was always full of loved ones and guests and her hospitality was legendary. She was a member of Pike Avenue Baptist church for many years where she worked tirelessly and sang joyfully in the choir. Her life began in Brushy Pond, Alabama where along with her 11 siblings she had many responsibilities, but her memories and stories of those years of hardship are filled with happiness and laughter. She believed in grace, forgiveness, and restoration and many have benefited from her compassion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Ethel Calvert, and many relatives and friends whom she cherished in her long and graceful life. At the age of 46 she was the mother of six children and had been widowed twice. The devoted husband of her youth was Verbon Stricklin and she later found love again with a dashing Merchant Marine, James Case. The strong bond between the children of her blended family is a testament to her faithful persistence in the face of loss. She is survived by her children Carolyn Crumpton (Richard, deceased), Randall Stricklin (Jo Lyn), Lynn Stricklin (Betty Jo), Lane Stricklin (Judy), Roselyn Harlan, and Jim Case (Jan). She was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, and everyone is her favorite.
