I am so sorry for your loss, Gayle.  Harry Slagle held a special place in my heart when he comforted me and my brothers after the death of our dad in June 1969.  He mentored us and sort of kept us under his wing all through school. God willing, I will see him again some day and what a day that will be! I will pray for you all but especially for him. His name will be on the altar for prayer the entire month of November. May God bless you all and give you peace. Class of 1971

Great memories of science/biology class!

thank you all for the wonderful comments. we will miss him. but we have so many great memories, we could talk about them for the rest of our lives, and never tell the same story twice. that being said, there are many we will tell over and over again. if you think it was great to have him as a principle, or a teacher. just imagine what it was like to have him as a father. it could not have been any better.

I have some wonderful memories of Science class with you. May God bless your Family during this time.

Since graduating from GHS in 1972, I've thought many times about Mr. Slagle and wanted him to know what an important impact he had on my life. This past August, at our 40th High School Reunion, I had an opportunity to tell him that he was largely responsible for my being able to attend college. Because Harry Slagle took a personal interest in his students, I was able to share with him that without a scholarship I could not afford to go to college. He got busy immediately and made contacts for me to apply for scholarships, which came through. I have always attributed his actions on my behalf as an important contribution to a happy and successful life. His smile and laughter are still a joy to remember. God bless you, Mr. Slagle.

Thank you, Harry Slagle, for teaching me things that have stayed with me throughout my life.  Everytime I thought of you over the years, I smiled.  May God comfort your family.

As his doctor, I can say that although Harry could be stubborn at times, he never knew how many lessons in life he was teaching me in my young career. When I fussed at him, he'd smile at me with those irresistible dimples and that Auburn hat, and you couldn't help but smile inside. He loved his Auburn Tigers about as much as I love my LSU Tigers and I miss the days of talkin' football. I always prayed for the day that I'd see him walk again. Now, Harry Slagle can walk and run with no limitations as he goes to a place that is more wonderful than any of us could EVER imagine, and I look forward to the day when we all get to see him again in His kingdom. For now, I hope Gayle is managing as best as she can. There is nothing I can say to make this easy to accept, but you have been so strong for so long, taking outstanding care of him, and I know your strength will carry you through this most difficult time. I hate that I just found out today. I wish I could have been at the services.  Gayle - I don't know that I can say this about every patient I cared for over the last 15 years, but I loved Harry and I love you, and I am here if you need me.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Slagle was one of my favorite teachers at Gardendale High School. I have such fond memories of him. My prayers are with you all.

I had Mr. Slagle for Science in the 7th grade at Gardendale High School.  He was a wonderful teacher and a great person.  He will be sorely missed.
