

On Sunday, November 17, 2019, Horace Brewster Ray, aged 77 completed his journey of life passing to Heaven. Horace was survived by his loving wife, Shelbia Jean Ray, son, Bradley Orrin Ray and wife Cheryl Stipes Ray, daughter, Laura Ray Walker and husband Kenneth Edward Walker, granddaughter, Brandi Dover Hollis and husband Hunter Stacey Hollis, granddaughter, Emily Erin Dennison and husband Micheal David Dennison, grandson, Landon Drake Walker, great-grandson, Liam Sean Hollis, brother, David Ray and his wife Joyce, and aunt, Audrey Smith Johnson.
Horace was born on April 3, 1942 in Birmingham, Alabama to Justin and Mildred Ray. On July 27, 1962, Horace married the love of his life Shelbia Jean Price.
Horace had a passion for racing cars his whole life. He was one of the early drivers that would drive on dirt tracks and was a truck driver for 40 years. He loved the Lord, but wasn't afraid of standing his ground with people. He preached at the prisons, Jimmy Hale Mission downtown Birmingham and other several local churches. Horace was known for his giving - he'd give you the shirt off his back if he could. Finally, Horace loved his wife, children, and his grandchildren and great grandchild with his whole heart. He considered all of them his own.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 21st at 2 pm at Church of the Highlands Chapel, 4700 Highlands Way, Birmingham AL 35210.
