
Howard Earl Collins, age 87, a native of Birmingham, AL, passed away May 26, 2017. He graduated from West End High School, Birmingham Southern College and Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and subsequently served as a Methodist minister for 26 years at various churches in the North Alabama conference including Mountain Chapel United Methodist and Methodist churches in Madison, Piedmont, Trussville, Birmingham, and Sylacauga. After retiring from the Methodist Church, he continued his ministry serving as Director of Continuing Care at Parkside-Bradford Health Services. He was also a member of Scottish Rite of FreeMasonry. He is survived by his three children: Julia Collins Wilkins, Nathan Allen Collins (Connie), and James Michael Collins (Sandy). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Stacy Harding (Matthew), Jason Wilkins (Krys), Lori Thomas (Nick), Elise Hollinhead (Clayton), Galen Collins, and Candice Wilkins, and 13 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry James and Nettie Turner Collins, his siblings: Julia Collins Gross, James Bryant Collins, Mary Nell Collins Williford, and Judson Grant Collins. There will be a private graveside service for immediate family at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated towards the National Parkinson's Foundation or any cause deemed worthy.
