A graduate of Ensley High School in Birmingham, she attended both The University of Alabama and Auburn University, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and received a degree from the School of Education in 1951. After graduation, she began her teaching career and married Birmingham native, William Renwick Armour.
During their married life she and Bill moved multiple times while he pursued his career and she raised their 5 children, periodically teaching elementary school.
In 1971, the family made their final move to Luverne, Alabama, where they finished raising their children, became empty-nesters, welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spent the last years of their life. The role Joyce most enjoyed was that of grandmother and great-grandmother. "MaMaw", as she was affectionately called, loved spending holidays and special occasions with her family. She spent her last days surrounded by those she loved.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Leigh Kelly and Auberrie Cummings Kelly; her husband, William Renwick Armour; and her sister, Nancy Kelly Scott.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Armour Webb (Alva), Joyce Armour Bowar (Chris), William Armour, Jr. (Cherry), Sarah Armour Bradley (Tommy Joe), and Mary Ann Armour Raynes (David); grandchildren, Richard Armour (fiance' Shannon Daniels), Lauren Bowar Stewart (Jerin), Ashley Armour, Andrew Armour (Megan), Kevin Bradley (Paige), Christopher Bowar, Erica Bradley Crumpton (Billy), Will Raynes; great-grandchildren, Natalie Davis, Aubrey Davis, Dylan Davis, Braxton Bradley, and Gracen Stewart; and sister, Marilyn Kelly Simpson.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on August 11, 2020 at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave Sw, Birmingham, AL 35211.
