Jack Sterling Barr, 89, of Huntsville, Alabama, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 20th, 2018. Jack was born on December 24, 1928 in Wylam, Alabama. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Archie, Sr. and Mabel Barr, brothers Archie, Jr., Bill, and Jimmy Barr and sister Ann Friday. Surviving brothers are Kenneth Barr of Tampa, Florida and Clifford Barr of Birmingham, Alabama. Family meant everything to Jack. He leaves behind his loving wife of 69 years, Carolynn Barr, daughter Carol Roberts and her husband Hill and son Glen Barr and his wife Becky. He thoroughly loved and enjoyed his granddaughters Melissa Skinner (husband Charley), Brooke Uptagrafft (husband David), and Rachel Ashcraft (husband Aaron) and grandson Brian Barr (wife Anna) and great-grandchildren Claire and Jackson Uptagrafft, Virginia and Anna Skinner and Ezra Ashcraft. Jack was a member of the Weatherly Heights church of Christ in Huntsville, Alabama and a former member of the Cahaba Heights church of Christ in Birmingham, Alabama. As a young man, Jack became an Eagle Scout and his first car was a Model T Ford. Jack received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alabama and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UAB. He worked for 11 years at Southern Research in Birmingham, Alabama as a Research Engineer and for 17 years as Chief Engineer at Anderson Electric/Square D in Leeds, Alabama, retiring in 1986. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a wonderful Christian example to all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at the Cahaba Heights church of Christ (4602 Caldwell Mill Road, Birmingham, Alabama 35242) on Monday, April 30th at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation period following. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Kindred Hospice Foundation.
