

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. Hall and Iva Jordan Hall, his loving wife, Olivia Diane Hall, and his siblings Paul Hall, Adrienne Inman, Rachel Cannon, Vernon Hall, Robert F. Hall, Jr., Lenore Mills, and Virgil (“T.V.”) Hall. He is survived by his loving partner and best friend, Jere Madonia; sons, Jack Hall, Jr. (Kristi) and James Hall; daughters; Melanie Hall and Angela Hall (John); grandchildren, Kat Duncan (Derek), Grace Henry (Joseph) Cole Hall, Olivia Dinning (Alston), Cameron Hall, and Alden Dowdy; greatgrandchildren Linley, Ford and Garrett Henry; siblings, Patricia Coomer, Joe Hall, Frank Hall, Andrew Hall, and Sharon Camp.
Jack was born on October 5, 1931, in Dunnavant, Alabama. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1949 before attending the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama Law School. He was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1955 before entering the United States Marine Corps in 1956 and graduating with honors from the Naval Justice School in 1957. Over the course of his military service, he was promoted to Major and served with distinction as a legal officer.
After completing his active-duty service in 1959, Jack moved to Birmingham and joined Mudd, Baker and McDaniel, which later became Baker, McDaniel and Hall where he continued his legal career. He was with the firm for 60 years, serving as managing partner for 37 years, before forming Hall & Hall Law with his son in 2022. Over the decades, he was admitted to practice before all Alabama state courts, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Alabama, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He also was a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Birmingham Bar Association, Alabama Bar Association, American Bar Association, International Society of Barristers, and the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel and was recognized with an AV rating in Martindale for over 50 years.
Beyond his professional life, Jack was deeply committed to his faith and community. He served as an Elder at Crestline Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Spring Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and later as a Ruling Elder at Independent Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, where he also taught Sunday School for more than two decades. He served on the IPC Foundation Board, the Shelby County Youth Aide Bureau, and the Board of Trustees of Bethel University. Jack also gave generously of his time and leadership to organizations including the Alabama Sheriffs Boys & Girls Ranches, the Birmingham Opera Theatre, and the Southern Regional Opera.
Socially, Jack was a charter member of Green Valley Country Club, as well as a member of Vestavia Country Club, The Club, Poinsettia Men’s Club, and the Metropolitan Dinner Club. He was also active in the American Legion and the Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association.
Jack will be remembered for his sharp wit, tireless work ethic, and his willingness to help others. He loved his family deeply, treasured his time on his farm, and carried with him the values of faith, service, and integrity throughout his 93 years of life.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Independent Presbyterian Church with service to follow at 11:00 am. Reverend Susan Clayton will be officiating. Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
