

He spent his early life in Birmingham attending the city’s public schools and graduating from Phillips High school in 1974 where he played varsity basketball. He enlisted in the United States Army and was discharged with a medical disability later on. During his early years Jack enjoyed playing basketball and was an avid fan of the University of Alabama football team and Bear Bryant. On Saturday mornings Jack loved going to the Royal Crown Saturday morning Dance Off at the Carver Theatre where he and his sister Sandra always managed to win the six pack of Royal Crown Colas. For many years he lived in Spencer Boarding Home where he was nourished loving by Mrs. Spencer.
He leaves to cherish his memories two children, Catrina and Demetrius Beverly; Five Brothers; Wilbert Whatley(Seattle), Jay(Cincinnati), Ennis(Ritza)Maryland), Kenny(Hoover) Keith(Chaundra)(Pell City); three sisters, Annie(Cincinnati), Sandra(Hoover) and Easter(Timothy)(Carrollton, Ga.), One Sister-In-Law Willie Mae Whatley; Two aunts, Frank Edna Parker, Pauline Morgan and one uncle, David Morgan, and a host of other friends and relatives.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 12pm until 5pm at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home. A celebration of Jackie's life will be on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 11 am at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel. He will be laid to rest in Birmingham's historic Elmwood Cemetery in Block 47. Family and friends will process from the chapel to the graveside following the celebration of life.
