

Jacqueline Genevieve Erben, age 91 of Pelham passed away in her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 9, 2017. Throughout her life, she was always serving others. Her career started as a Secretary on the Air Force base in Kansas where she met her husband of 40 years James B. Erben, Sr. Jackie went to work at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville where she was a Legal Secretary for 12 years. Upon moving to Birmingham, she was Chief of Staff at the VA Hospital. Her passion was cutting hair for any and all who graced her chair in the parlor that her husband built for her in their home. Jackie was affectionately known as Mimi, Mimi Jackie, Momma Jackie, Momma Bear and Mammy Wammy. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, but most importantly, a huge Auburn fan and Christian lady. Everyone that met her, loved her. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Ferrell Heeter and Hilda Marie Pinkleman Heeter; husband, James B. Erben, Sr.; siblings: William Heeter, Marguerite Harnett and Ferrell Heeter. Left to cherish her memory: son, James B. Erben, Jr.; daughters: Pamela Barcroft (Bud), Judy Erben (no mother, I have not met anyone yet) and Anne Freeman (Amber); sister, JoAnn Clark; sister-in-law, Judy Heeter; grandchildren: Niki Garner, Katelyn Erben, Kara Erben, Guy William Freeman, Jr. (Meagan), Jessica Freeman Martin (Kevin); great grandchildren: Cloye Martin, Karcen Martin, Isabella Martin, Grant William Freeman and Ava Presleigh Martin; nieces, Misty Heeter Lucas (Mark), Susan Sullivan, and Carolyn Niedermeier (Mike); great niece and nephew, Christopher Lucas (Leslie) and Ginnie Lucas Dennis (Jason). Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with burial in Elmwood Cemetery next to her beloved husband. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
