James Thomas Black, 71, died on Tuesday, August 25th at home in Birmingham, Ala. Tommy was a native of Ramer and a proud 1977 graduate of the University of Alabama. After cutting his teeth as a reporter and editor at The Birmingham News, Tommy began his thirty year career at Southern Living magazine, retiring as Travel
Director in 2013. Tommy is survived by his wife, Patricia Butterworth Black; two daughters, Emma and Sarah Black; sons-in-law Sean Pathasema and Seth Lewis; three grandchildren, James and Matthew Pathasema and Naomi Black; his brother Jerry Black; and his sister Janice Wolfe. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations be made to National Public Radio. A celebration of his life will be held at the Cahaba Brewing Co. Taproom in Birmingham on Saturday, Sept 5th at 2pm.
