

James Patrick “Pat” Kennedy of Hoover passed away on Feburary 20, 2017 at the age of 94. He was born in Parrish, Alabama on March 30, 1922 and was the second of two sons born to Edmond and Clara Kennedy. Pat enlisted in the military at the age of 18 and served for 5 years. After serving his country he married Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Gannaway at the age of 22. Pat and Elizabeth had a son, James Michael Kennedy, to complete their family. Pat was employed by Motor Parts Company, Superock Block Company and retired from DeMarco Block as a salesman after 24 years. He was a devout choir member, deacon and member of his Hoover First Baptist Church family. Pat was preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth Kennedy; parents John Edmond and Clara Cranford Kennedy; and brother and sister-in-law John Edmond “Ed” and Irma Kennedy. He is survived by his loving son, James Michael Kennedy (Jackie), grandchildren Patrick Wood Kennedy (Anne Marie) and Keely Kennedy Hooks (Austin), great grandson Thomas Hooks, sister-in- law Jane Gannaway Young, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 5-7p.m. at Johns-Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with funeral services on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11:00a.m at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home. The service will be presided over by Randy Atkinson Pastor of FBC of Hoover. The family ask that in lieu of flower to make memorial donations to First Baptist Church in Hoover or Jimmy Hale Mission in Birmingham, AL.
