December 29, 1946 – July 16, 2026
After his courageous battle, it is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of James Frances Lovoy (Jim) on July 16, 2026. Jim was 79 years old.
Jim peacefully left this world and joined his parents and brother, who he’ s so desperately missed! He’s now got the glove in his hand and throwing the baseball with his brother in heaven.
Although dementia slowly robbed Jim of many memories, it never erased the love he had for family. He leaves a strong legacy, which will forever carry on!
Born on December 29, 1946, he lived a life centered on family, laughter, and creating lasting memories. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make those around him smile. He especially loved being silly and he was always ready with one of his playful antics—whether it was his famous "meat hook" or finding new ways to lovingly aggravate everyone he cared about. His sense of humor was one of his greatest gifts, and he often joked that his daily bowl of ice cream was simply his "daily intake of calcium."
From Jim’s days at Double LL BBQ, he became well known for delicious barbecue and his legendary “secret” sauce, which has been enjoyed by countless customers, family and friends over the years.
Jim loved fishing, watching classic old westerns and war movies. Most of all, he loved reminiscing about his younger days on the baseball field, where he excelled!
Jim is survived by his children, Chris Lovoy, Cathy (Charlie) Floyd, and Jeni (Chad) Miller; his grandchildren, Andrew Testerman, Jackson Testerman, Heath Miller, and Annesly Miller; his nieces, Tracie Spain and Terri Short; his sister-in-law, Mary Sue Lovoy; several great-nieces and great-nephews; numerous cousins; and many friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Lovoy; his mother, Florence Lovoy; and his brother, Bobby Lovoy.
A Memorial Service will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
