James O. Plunkett, 90, of Birmingham, AL passed away on July 16, 2018. He was born in Blountsville, AL on March 13, 1928 to the late Norman and Bertha (Ratliff) Plunkett.
Jim is survived by his daughters Dawn Warren (John) and Dana Thompson; grandsons Justin Strange and Joel Warren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Jim proudly attended Auburn University as a business major until he joined the Navy in 1946. He served until 1952 when he was Honorably Discharged as an Airman. During his time in the Navy, Jim completed Flight School and was awarded the Victory Medal. After leaving the service, Jim moved to Birmingham where he met his future wife, Mary Clay, through work at TCI. The two were married in 1954 and spent 53 wonderful years of marriage together prior to Mary's passing in 2007. Jim loved to garden and was a passionate Auburn football fan, a passion he imparted upon his daughters and grandsons. He loved to talk politics and football, and had a good sense of humor. Jim will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
