James William Scott

Surrounded by his family, James Scott, age 85, departed this life on May 4th, 2016. The family will receive friends at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with the service to begin at 11:00 AM. Dr. Bill Wilks will conduct the services. Burial will follow at Forest Crest Cemetery. James (Sonny, JW) is survived by his wife of 62 years, Peggy McCary Scott; daughters Susan Davis (Gary), Cary DeLeonard (Steve); 5 grandsons, Caleb Davis (Leslie), Zack Davis, Travis Davis, Michael DeLeonard and Steven DeLeonard; three great-children Isaac, Elijah and Lydia Davis; two nephews Hal (Linda) and James (Cathy) and numerous great nieces and nephews. James is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Ruby Scott and his sister Martha Poe and her husband Harold Poe, Sr.

James was born in Leeds, AL. and graduated from Leeds High School in 1948. He attended JSU and Birmingham Southern. He was a veteran of the Korean war where as a 20 year old, he commanded (2) 16 member mortar squads.

James was employed as a purchasing agent for Bama Foods. For a number of years he was active in Civitans. He enjoyed fly fishing, gardening and building. He was a member of North Park Baptist Church and a member of Abundant Living Sunday School class. The family appreciates the loving care given James by April McGuire, Shundrenay Bagman, Shanti Bailey, Texanna Gray, and the support of countless members of New Beacon Hospice.
