He is survived by his wife of 44 years Barbara Serio Sims, sons James “Jay” Jerome (Tamera) and Jeffrey Lynn (Amanda) Sims.
He is also survived by sisters Patricia Lee and Sandra Amick. Grandchildren Justin Tyler Sims, Casey Fowler Sims, Breanna, Cameron and Hunter Standridge.
Mr. Sims was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired Lt. of the Birmingham Police Department. He was former President of the Birmingham F.O.P. also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, devout Catholic and proud father and PAPA.
Funeral Mass will be Thursday April 17, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Pauls’ Cathedral with interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. Pallbearers will be former members of the South Tactical Cobra Crew.
