James was born and grew up in Chattanooga, TN after graduating from high school. Jim was immensely proud of having served in the Navy from 1963 until 1967. In the 70’s he moved to Alabama to manage a wood treatment company until he retired in 2005.
Jim had a license to fly small aircraft and his hobbies were bowling, golfing and 5K marathons. He was Road Captain of the Birmingham Harley Davidson Club and earned the nickname of King Hog.
Jim was a member of Word of Life Church in Chelsea, AL and loved his pastor and church family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Miles A. and Nancy E. Standish, his brother Miles L. Standish and late wives Linda J. Standish and Lindsey W. Standish.
He is survived by his current wife Betty Burkhalter Standish, son Michael Standish (Leslie), and their children Chelsea, Addie and Sophie, Hunter Standish (Angela), and his children Cody, Blair, and Jaden.
Visitation will be Wednesday March 19, 2025, at Elmwood Chapel 11-12 and the burial will be at Alabama National Cemetery 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115 at 2:00pm.
