James Richard Thompson, 73, of Ashville, AL passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021 at home surrounded by family. He was born on October, 14, 1947 in Birmingham, AL. He was a veteran of the United States Army and worked in security for many years. His last place of employment was St. Vincent's East in Birmingham, AL. He loved hunting and fishing, music, stamp collecting and was an avid reader. Hew was also a huge Alabama football fan
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara Lynn Thompson; son, David S. Thompson (Leigh) of Odenville, AL; son, William Michael Thompson (Jeanna) of Ashville, AL; granddaughter, Samantha Smith Moorer (William) and Rebecca Leigh Thompson; grandson, William Caleb Thompson; brother, Michael L. Thompson (Teresa) of Pell City, AL ; brother-in-law, William R. Hoover (Charlotte) of Ashville, AL; nephew, Eugene Hoover and niece, Elizabeth Lynn Hoover who live in the home.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family wants to thank the employees, especially his nurse and aides of Lakeside Hospice in Pell City for their support and kindness through his illness. We also would like to thank Chaplain Larry Wimberly for officiating the service. Johns Ridouts Elmwood Chapel directing.
