
James Gregory Vandegrift of Birmingham, Alabama was born April 26, 1965 and passed away December 20, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Vandegrift and his twin brother, John Stuart Vandegrift. He is survived by his mother, Willa Dean Vandegrift, his sister, Lynn V. English (Bill) and her child, Wolfe (nee Deanna) English, and his aunt, Mary Vandegrift (Erskine Jr., deceased). He had many cousins: Don Sorge, John Sorge (Jan), Teresa Adams (Joe), Russell James (Brenda), Michael James (Joy) Dennis Vandegrift (deceased, Carolyn), Teresa Rathbun (John), Elaine Pickett (Bobby), Keith Vandegrift (Chris) and Frances O’Steen (John) and numerous great nieces and nephews. Beyond his family, James had countless friends.
In his youth, James was a faithful attendee and participant in worship at both Shades Valley and South Highland Presbyterian Churches in Birmingham, Alabama. He was active in the Presbytery’s youth programs, camps, and conferences. He attended Mountain Brook and John Carroll High Schools, eventually earning his GED; Bessemer Technical Institute and Jefferson State Junior College. He actively enjoyed music throughout his life, particularly playing drums. With his twin, he established the Gemini Painting Company.
A private, family-only, graveside service is being planned.
