James Douglas Wright, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 2, 2023. He was born in Fayette, Alabama on September 13, 1933 to Paul and Jalie (Lindsey) Wright. James was married to his beautiful wife, Beatrice (Seymer) Wright, for 69 years.
James proudly served in the United States Army as a military police officer during the Korean War. After his time in the military, James worked for Jefferson County, Alabama as a civil engineer. During his thirty plus year career, he planned and oversaw several large infrastructure projects that set the foundation for the long-term growth of the county. In his free time, Doug enjoyed working in his garden and watching Alabama football. He attended Leeds First Methodist Church.
James is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Lindsey Wright and Paul Wright, Jr.; and his sisters, Christine (Wright) Bagwell and Muriel Wright; and two nephews, Jerry Bagwell and Ronald Bagwell. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice, two nephews, Miles (Judy) and Hillary (Deb) Wright; nieces, Mershon Wright and Reta Bagwell; several great nieces and nephews and many dear friends and relatives.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, February 7th from 1 – 2 pm at Johns-Ridouts Elmwood Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm at Elmwood Cemetery. Reverend Chip Vann officiating.
