Jane Allan Pogue Mitchell of Homewood, Ala, passed away on January 12, 2016 at the age of 92. A native of Birmingham, Ala., Jane was the daughter of Mary Louise and Charles T. Pogue. Born in 1923, she attended Barker Grammar School, and was a graduate of Phillips High School. In 1944, she met and married her husband of seventy years, the late Raymond B. Mitchell, Jr. The couple made their home and raised a family in Birmingham. Jane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, volunteering much of her time as a Girl Scout Leader, P.T.A. member, and as an active member of Birmingham’s First United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church. Jane also devoted much of her volunteer time helping people of special needs. Survivors include her son, Raymond B. Mitchell, III, daughter Jane M. Matthews, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The family will be receiving guests on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home with a celebration of Life ceremony following at 11:00am.
