Gloria Jean Harpst Payne peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 24, 2022, at her family’s lake home on Lake Martin. Jean was an extraordinarily woman, beautiful inside and out. She was a caregiver and truly had a servant’s heart. She had a deep and abiding faith. She leaves a loving legacy of family and friends. She loved spending time at the lake and the beach. She will be missed. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Irene Harpst; sister, Joyce Douglas; brother, Lamarr Harpst; husband, Carlice Payne; and sons, Jeffrey Lynn Payne and Larry Payne. She is survived by her children, Carla Clower (Andy) and Steve Payne (Kim); grandchildren Joseph Rocco (Emily), Jeffrey Payne (Baylie), Stephen Payne, Cristopher Clower, and Cheyenne Payne. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at UAB and to Enhabit Home Health & Hospice of Alexander City, for the wonderful care they provided Jean. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be held from 1 - 2 pm on Saturday May 7, 2022 at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel followed by a graveside service at 2 pm at Elmwood Cemetery.
